SACCJ is pleased to announce that the British Chamber of Commerce in Japan (BCCJ) and the Australia New Zealand Chamber of Commerce in Japan (ANZCCJ) will be hosting a Luncheon event “Disruption, expectation and complexity: the 21st century business imperative”.
You are invited to attend this joint event organized by the BCCJ and ANZCCJ, featuring keynote speaker Jean-Sébastien (J-S) Jacques. J-S is the Chief executive of Rio Tinto, an Anglo-Australian mining & metals company, and long-standing corporate member of both Chambers.
After almost 150 years of pioneering exploration, expansion, diversification and innovation, Rio Tinto has become one of the world’s largest producers of essential materials, and a major force driving human progress.
At the event on June 5, J-S will share his views on how industry and business must respond to the complexities and constantly changing realities of the world in which we operate, in order to stay relevant in the 21st century. Topics to be covered in J-S's keynote followed by an armchair discussion will include: technological disruptions in data and AI, to societal expectations around climate change and environmental footprint.

About the speaker:
Jean-Sébastien Jacques, Chief executive Rio Tinto
Jean-Sébastien Jacques (J-S) was appointed a director of the Rio Tinto board on 17 March 2016 and became chief executive officer on 2 July 2016.
He has over 25 years’ experience in heavy industry and mining. He gained extensive global experience leading businesses in developed and emerging markets in Australia, Asia, Africa, Americas and Europe.
J-S was appointed chief executive officer of Rio Tinto’s Copper group in 2013 and chief executive officer of the Copper & Coal group in February 2015. He led the transformation of this group delivering a step change in both safety and cash performance whilst reshaping the portfolio to focus on its highest quality assets. He also had responsibility for two of the group’s major growth projects, Oyu Tolgoi in Mongolia and Resolution in the US, both of which saw significant progress during his tenure.
He was the Chairman of the International Copper Association from late 2014 to 2016. He has been a member of International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM) since July 2016 and he joined European Roundtable of Industrialists (ERT) in May 2018.
Prior to joining Rio Tinto in 2011, he worked in a wide range of operational and functional roles in the aluminium, bauxite, steel industries and served as group director, Strategy for Tata Steel Group from 2007 to 2011.
J-S holds a Master of Science from École Centrale Paris.
