We invite you to our next Rugby Alliance event - Diversity in Rugby
From 20 September to 2 November, 48 games involving 20 international teams will be held in 12 host cities across Japan. It will be the first time the mega event has been held in Asia, and the country is poised to welcome over 400,000 visitors across 44 days, attracting worldwide media attention from over 200 nations.
By the end of 2018, a record number of over 4.5 million ticket applications had been received by organisers. Beyond ticketing, it is estimated that the tournament will generate a total output of around ¥437.2 billion, boosting national GDP by ¥216.6 billion. Anticipation is at an all time high.
Underpinning these headline numbers, the Rugby World Cup 2019 (RWC19) is nurturing a diverse legacy in Japan. This once-in-a-lifetime tournament holds promise for regional economies, businesses, communities, and families. Japan and rugby bodies internationally expect RWC19 to be a game-changer, thanks to the ‘Impact Beyond' legacy programme which has introduced the game to over 460,000 participants across the country. Sponsors are utilising the event as an agent for social change. Schools and companies alike are celebrating rugby values and their transformative power to drive teamwork, diversity and ambition. And all of this is set against the backdrop of an incredible global gender shift - in 2017, more young women started to play rugby for the first time than men - so growth in the female rugby playing population is increasing. Now a total of 29% of players are female.
Join us on 26 March to discover the bigger picture surrounding the RWC19 tournament. Guests will hear from the following panellists:
Keiko Asami, World Rugby Board member, Former Head Coach of Japan Rugby Women's Sevens Team
Koji Tokumasu, President of the Shibuya Rugby Club and Senior Director at the RWC19 Organising Committee
Fiona Taag, Head of Global Sponsorship & Europe Marketing Communications, DHL
This event is a part of the Rugby Alliance project.
