The South African Embassy in Japan hosted up to 200 VIPs, staff, friends and expats for Freedom Day, on April 27 at the Hotel New Otani. The tasty luncheon spread of classic SA cuisine such as pap, bobotie, potjiekos and melktert helped mark the 29th anniversary of the country’s first democratic elections and honoured the heroes who fought for an equal, representative, non-racial nation. After a special video message from SA Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Candith Mashego-Dlamini, Ambassador Lulama Smuts Ngonyama proposed the toast, cut the cake, and posed for photos with African and other ambassadors. On behalf of the South African Chamber of Commerce in Japan, a big thanks and congratulations to the Embassy for a heart-warming tribute to democracy, freedom and the world’s most progressiveConstitution.

The South African Chamber of Commerce in Japan was established in 2008 to promote trade and commerce as well as enhance friendship and cultural understanding between the two nations. The SACCJ strives to be a reliable first point of contact for businesses and individuals related to South Africa in Japan, and to provide our members with access to a wealth of information and contacts to assist in their projects, ventures and businesses.
